What do I eat before, during and after the tour?Normal tours: optional short break included, consumption at your own expense Normal tours where it is not explicitly stated that something is provided do not include food and drinks. However, all tours are private, so you can choose to take a short break within the indicated tour duration to rest, visit the toilet or buy something to eat yourself (e.g. coffee, drinks, ice cream). The guide knows where to find the best cafes or gelato stops in the city! Street food/snack tours This is a savory and/or sweet, small portion to get acquainted with Roman and Italian cuisine. Every person is different, but normally these should not replace a complete meal. Check the tour description on the site for the specification of the number of portions. They are "snack pit stops" (not drinks) at the best authentic, local stalls. You will receive cultural, historical and culinary explanations and tips for the rest of the holiday from your English-speaking guide at the stops along the route. With us you can choose the time of all your tours. This allows you to plan your tour to fit in with the rest of your day. For more information about dietary requirements, see the chapter "FOOD QUESTIONS". Restaurant during the tour It is possible to have a complete meal during your tour. For information, look under the chapter "FOOD QUESTIONS". Questions or requests? Email (wegenvanrome@gmail.com) or Whatsapp message (+39 334 180 9689) the guide.

Can I add a longer restaurant break? You can choose a meal during a normal tour or during a Full Day Tour*. Please indicate this in the comments field during your reservation. Your guide will arrange the table, ensure that the restaurant is on the route at the right time and provide advice and information about dishes and traditions! Allow +1/1.5 hours per meal. A small surcharge for guide salary applies. Food and drinks are at your own expense, so you can even indicate a preference for the type of restaurant and choose from the full menu! We do not make any extra profit or commission on meals, you pay directly to the local, quality Roman restaurant or traditional "trattoria". This is how we keep Rome authentic! *A "Full Day Tour" is a tour mix (of 2 or max. 3 tours), see the heading "GENERAL QUESTIONS" for more information. Cycling tours Are you doing a bike tour? Bicycle shops close at 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM. It is therefore possible to have lunch during a tour on request. Dinner can be had after the tour or during the tour only by renting the bicycles yourself until the next day upon request. You are responsible for the bicycles after the tour (locking them during the night, returning them, etc.). Questions? Email (wegenvanrome@gmail.com) or Whatsapp message (+39 334 180 9689) the guide!

Are the bike tours suitable for kids? Our bike tours are ideal for the whole family! We adapt the tour to the ages of your group (e.g. flatter roads, more fun facts) based on your wishes. The Appian Way tour is a bit longer and also covers uneven terrain. For younger children, the Highlights tour of the center is therefore usually the best choice. Type of bicycle Always indicate what you need when making your reservation: - Normal bicycles and e-bikes are suitable for people from 1.40 meter tall and onwards. - Tandem bicycles are sometimes available on request at an additional cost (for two people from 1.40m.) - A limited number of trailer bicycles/smaller bicycles and child seats are available. Children in a child seat (max. 20kg) can travel for free. Helmet Wearing a helmet is voluntary, but we recommend that you use the helmet and inform you that in Italy the use of the helmet for young people under the age of 14 is legally required (parents are responsible for that decision). Responsibility All our tour participants ride on their own responsibility and participants under the age of 18 are the responsibility of the parent/adult they are traveling with. The guide will explain the safety regulations, how the bikes work and can provide explaination regarding Italian traffic rules. It is important that parents (and children) can cycle well and follow the advice of our guides. We take a safe route and make the tour extra fun for the kids. For more information about safe cycling in Rome, see the "Cycling questions" chapter. Have a lot of safe cycling fun!

Is cycling in Rome safe? How do we cycle in Rome? Cycling is becoming increasingly popular, also among Italians. Not surprising, cycling through Rome with the Italian sun and a fresh light breeze is an ideal way of transport. Faster than on foot and more flexible and direct than by car, you often cruise through beautiful, green alleys and beautiful squares by bike. Safety is very important to us. Nowadays, cars are also used to cyclists on the road, but we avoid the busiest streets, drive on (the rapidly growing number of) cycle paths and pedestrian zones and our experienced guides often choose pedestrian crossings or zebra crossings to cross a larger street. What do you need to know? It is crucial that every participant knows how to cycle in a city and that you know basic traffic rules and follow the advice of our guides during the tour. Always pay attention to the road surface, traffic and fellow travelers when cycling, crossing and making stops. When in doubt, choose the safe option. Drive and brake calmly and always with two hands (especially on cobblestones, bends, slopes, leaves or wet road surfaces). Wearing a helmet is voluntary in Italy. We recommend that you use the helmet and inform you that in Italy the use of the helmet for young people under the age of 14 is legally required (parents are responsible for that decision). All our tour participants bike on their own responsibility and guests under the age of 18 are the responsibility of the parent/adult they are traveling with. Doubt? Are you nervous about something or should we take something into account? Please let us know via the reservation form or ask your questions via Whatsapp (+39 334 180 9689) or email (wegenvanrome@gmail.com). We have been cycling throughout Rome every day for years, know the roads of Rome like the back of our hands and take your wishes into account! For more information about how sporty and accessible our tours are, see the chapter "General questions".

Can I rent the bicycles for longer before and/or after the tour? The bicycle shops open at 9am and close at 6pm or 7pm (depending on location/season). On request, you can continue renting the bicycles, for example until the next day. You are responsible for the bicycles after the tour (locking them during the night, returning them, etc.). Book your tour via the site and indicate your wishes in the comments field. This way you can even also do a bike tour in the evening, for which a surcharge applies. Walking tours are always possible in the evenings without a surcharge. Questions? Email (wegenvanrome@gmail.com) or Whatsapp message (+39 334 180 9689) the guide!

What should I wear and bring with me?Rule number 1 applies to all our tours: wear something that makes you feel good! In addition, take the following things into account: Churches Viewing churches from the inside is not a standard part of the tour, but it can be fun if we pass by a special one. If you want to go inside, there are dress codes: - no shorts or skirt (above the knee) - no bare shoulders, back or stomach - this applies to everyone - Bringing one or more shawls or scarves in your bag can be the solution for a hot day. Comfy is important - Shoes that are good for walking or cycling - If you are doing a bike tour, keep that in mind when choosing your clothing. A pencil skirt that is too tight is not ideal, a big dress that is too long or wide trouser legs can get stuck in between the bike chain! - Large or heavy bags/objects are not convenient. We cannot store these anywhere during the walking tours. For bicycle tours bicycle baskets or bicycle bags are not guaranteed and are not spacious. Throughout the tour we stop at many places, so always keep a close eye on your belongings. Tour payment You pay in cash to your own guide on site. Precise payment is appreciated, our guides do not have an ATM or large cash register in their pocket (our starting locations are outside or change based on the number of participants / crowds / type of tour / the route / the weather / your wishes). Any tips are not included in the price. Weather related Rome often has clear blue skies and mild sunshine, but think about the season. Check the weather forecast and based on that you might want to take this with you: Hot days - Sunglasses - Cap/hat. The guide usually seeks shade, but a sunstroke is not fun. - Sun cream - Refillable water bottle (we come across water points along the route) Cold days - Umbrella/raincoat/poncho. Some bicycle shops have ponchos themselves, but this is not guaranteed. Holding an umbrella while biking often doesn't really work. In heavy rain, the bike tour can be converted into a walking tour! - Cardigan, jacket, scarf, gloves, hat: whatever you need to be happy! Do you have questions? Whatsapp message (+39 334 180 9689) or email (wegenvanrome@gmail.com) the guide.

What about reservations, payment, bad weather, changes and cancellations?Reservations: simple Without advance payment or booking costs. You can book your tour via the site, by email (wegenvanrome@gmail.com) or even by simply sending an message via Whatsapp to your guide (+39 334 180 9689). Booking a tour by telephone is more difficult, we are a small company so... busy busy busy. If you have any questions/requests, please specify when making your reservation. See you soon in the Roads of Rome! Payment: safe Pay cash to your own guide on site. Precise payment is appreciated: starting locations alternate or are outside and our guides do not have an ATM or a large cash register in their pocket. Any tips are not included in the price. Bad weather: poncho, shelters or postpone Cycling tours can be changed into walking tours during heavy rain. Fortunately, Italian weather is almost always favorable and 9 out of 10 the (often incorrectly) predicted rain does not occur or only for a few minutes. The tour is completely private, so we do the route based on your wishes. If rain is predicted, we will together find a solution: put on your cozy poncho, quickly go to a nice cafe for a mini break or we will change or reschedule the tour together in advance based on the weather forecasts. Changes: free Do you want to move your tour to another day or time, adjust the number of participants, do another type of tour, you name it: call or Whatsapp message your guide (+39 334 180 9689). Request: we are a small company, so please request changes as soon as possible. When you book, the schedules of guides/staff will be blocked for other work (and any e-bikes/bicycles and food will be booked). +The sooner you report changes, the more likely it will work out for your group :) Cancellation: free (but please be kind) Do you not want to reschedule or change your tour, but cancel it completely? Are you sure? Too bad you're not coming with us. Cancellation is easy: call or Whatsapp message your guide as soon as possible (+39 334 180 9689). Request: we are a small company, so please manage this as soon as possible and no later than 24 (48?) hours prior to the tour. When you book, the guides/staff's calendars will be blocked for other work (and any bikes and food will be booked). Not canceling last minute is important! <3

How can I book multiple tours?Do tours on different days or for different groups Then make a reservation for each tour separately on the website by completing the reservation form on the page of the relevant tour. Multiple tours in 1 day and for the same group If you want to do the tours on the same day, go for a Full Day Tour. This is a tour mix (of 2 or max. 3 tours), click on the chapter "GENERAL QUESTIONS" for more information.

Why do you prefer to use the website/Whatsapp/email rather than the telephone?Calling is reserved for reporting changes or cancellations (as soon as possible, at least 24 hours in advance) and other urgent questions. You can ask other questions, book the tours and discuss additional options via (the comments box with your reservation) on the website, by email or even simply by WhatsApp messaging directly with the guide. If you try to call us, we may not answer. We are a small company of guides, so we are probably doing a super fun tour that needs our full attention and enthusiasm. Hopefully we'll soon do one with you: make a reservation and see you soon in the Roads of Rome! Ps. You can always leave us a WhatsApp message, email, chat message or comment (in the comments box with your reservation) on the site with a request to try to call you (back).

How sporty and how accessible are the tours? All our tours are private tours for a group tour price tag, which means our guide can adjust the pace, number of stops, difficulty level, sound volume etc. to suit you! Read more about this topic below. If you have any questions, requests or comments, please email (wegenvanrome@gmail.com) or Whatsapp message (+39 334 180 9689) us. Togther we will try to find the best solution! Cycling tours By bike you see more in a shorter time. You don't have to rush at all to get a nice overview of the city, it's Italy and you're on holiday! Enjoy and the guide will tailor the tour to your desired pace, whether that's sporty racing over hills and forest paths or relaxed cruising over flat squares! It is important to be able to cycle well (together), the guide ensures safe routes. That means you need to bike a straight line. You can choose a normal bicycle (with gears) or take it easy with an electric bike (e-bike). We have a limited number of smaller bicycles or trailer bicycles available for people under 1.40 meter. It is sometimes also possible to reserve a tandem bicycle at an additional cost. Always indicate your requirements during the reservation, we will get back to you based on availability. For more information about, for example, safety or children, look at our bicycle tours under "Cycling questions" chapter. Walking tours Although the city is built on 7 hills, the center is mainly located in the valley in between. Rome is a large city, but fortunately it is very compact compared to other European capitals. It is less than 5 kilometers from Termini Central Station to Vatican City and the major sights are located in between. Walking in Rome is beautiful, but keep in mind that roads and sidewalks might be in less good condition than at home. You will have to cross a lot of cobblestones, but these are flat cobblestones where the joints are usually completely filled with asphalt, giving you a fairly flat surface. Because the tours are completely private, the guide can make a route without any stairs or otherwise more accessible. Always indicate your requirements when making the reservation, and we will look at the options. Wheelchair accessible transportation is not included to/from/on our tours.

Where does my tour start?Check your confirmation message The (always central, easily reachable) starting location is based on the chosen tour, number of participants, seasonal crowds and other circumstances. It is therefore important that you check the tour details in your booking confirmation that you receive from your guide by email and/or WhatsApp. This often also contains information about how you can reach the location by public transport. Bike tours start at a centrally located bike shop based on availability. Depending on the chosen tour, events, road maintenance, etc., walking tours start in a central location. In consultation, you can sometimes request that walking tours start at your preferred location (in the city center), please indicate this when making your reservation. Do you have questions? Feel free to Whatsapp message (+39 334 180 9689) or email (wegenvanrome@gmail.com) your guide! :) Tour payment on location Don't forget: you don't have to pay anything during the reservation, you only pay in cash to your own guide on the spot. Precise payment is appreciated: starting locations vary or are outside and our guides do not have an ATM or large cash register in their pocket. The optional tip for the guide is not included in the price.
